Our Priorities

Every religious Order was founded for a particular purpose. We were founded for preaching. Dominican preaching worldwide is based on 4 priorities, coming from our tradition, enunciated at a General Chapter in 1977, and re-iterated many times since. They are like foundation stones, on which our preaching rests. These are:
-
Theology
-
Evangelization
-
Justice and Peace
-
Communication
In 1990 the Master of the Order wrote: “The four priorities . . . .are inextricably interwoven. You cannot accept one and omit the others. They depend on each other and all must be present in the apostolate of every Dominican. There will be specialists in each field, but the specialist in communications, for example, will need to be a theologian and also mindful of Justice and Mission issues. The non-specialist will need to bring something of each priority to his work“. (Damian Byrne)
Place your cursor on the tab “Priorities” again, and a drop-down menu will appear. Each of these priorities has a page of explanation.
